Welcome to my new and slowly being updated site, those that have been here before, I hope that you like the new format. I have tried to make it easier to navigate, with all the photos in a semblance of order. Those that are new, I hope that you will find something of interest. The idea is to bring together some advice and photograph's on flowers, all the photos you see are taken in my garden, unless otherwise stated. They are all however taken by me.

I took the decision to move to a new server and the opportunity to make the changes, previously all the photos were all in different galleries and I know from feedback this made it hard to see what plants they were. Now all the plants are clearly named and all the photos associated with that plant will be in the same place. There will also be some information on how to look after the plants and perhaps my own perspective on it.

There will be more galleries added weekly and hopefully soon it will be as large as the old site was.

If you have any feedback or even requests them please do not hesitate to drop me a note.

It is important to just outline some basics, for those that are not familiar with types of plants, as there are many types, like Perennials and annuals. So lets break it down a bit and give some basic outlines,

Spring bulbs are as it sounds, bulbs that flower in the spring. they usually consist of Crocus, Daffodils, Tulips and many more. Usually planted in the Autumn. They usually come back year after year and most will spread on their own.

Annuals, or called summer bedding, for example, snapdragons, pansies, Lobelia and many more. These plants are usually sown in the early part of the year and will flower over the summer of the same year, once the summer is over annuals will die off and need to be removed, some annuals are hardy and some are not, this means that hardy plants will survive frosts. Although it is not recommended to plant out annuals until the danger of frosts have past.

Biennials, put simply will grow the first year and flower the second. for example, Foxglove, Sweet William, some hollyhocks to name a few. Usually the seeds are sown in the spring of year one, they will grow and produce foliage and over winter, then year two the plant will flower and then die off.

Perennials, Plants that will grow for many years, usually the top portion of the plant will die off in the winter and grow back the following year, for example, Coneflowers, Hollyhocks, Day Lilly and many more.. Most are frost hardy, but of course there are exceptions to that.
