Antirrhinum

This is the foliage of Antirrhinum.

Snapdragons are one off thos eplants that bring the border or pots to life, for me they are one of those plants that ther garden in the summer can not do without. Easy to grow from seed, great for children to try as germination is easy and prolific.  All you need to grow them, is a tray with some compost, sow the seeds on the surface, seal inside a propagator or a clear plastic bag. When the seeds are large emough transfer into pots, and keep sheltered from frosts. Once the plants get to about 4 inches tall, pinch the top out. this will make the plant bush out and eventually produce more flowers.

Snapdragons will flower throughout most of the summer, once a flower head has finished then cut back, this should force more flowers. At the ned of the season, if the plant is in a sheltered spot it will probably survive the winter and sprout again. Usually I have quite a few that I leave in each year to see how they will cope with the winter. The majority will survive, of course you can remove them all and plant nmmore the follwoing year, the choice is yours.
