There are many varieties of Geum, one of the most popular is Mrs J Bradshaw, the bright red blooms are truly stunning.
Sown in March/April and planted out from May onwards, and will flower from May to September, ensure the faded blooms are removed to prolong the flowering. when the flowers have finished, cut the flower spikes back to the ground and this may encourage a further second round of flower spikes to appear. Every few years Geum's should be divided, usually March to May or after flowering August to October.
A Geums flower spikes may need to have some support once they atart to grow as they can be blown over by the wind.
At the end of the season remove any dead leaves from the plant, also any flower spikes that have not been completly cut back to the base. In the spring there maybe other dead leaves that need to be removed.
